Please click to read a very quick summary of the new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) requirements for Landlords:

  • As of 01-April 2016 this applies to any property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating F or G
  • Tenants have the right to request energy improvements such as loft/cavity insulation
  • The Landlord is legally bound to bring the property up to E unless upfront costs are involved (for now)
  • From April 2018 you will not be able to let (new Tenancies) or sell if lower than E rating
  • April 2020 minimum rating E for all Tenancies
  • April 2025 target minimum rating D
  • April 2030 target minimum rating C
